Jack Douglas by John M. Johnson

John M. Johnson “The Vision and Broken Heart of Jack D. Douglas” in Symbolic Interaction  (2015, preview).

I have read the preview of this article and it told me a lot about the man and his background. What a hard life he had when he was young! I had no idea…His papers on political issues make me realise he is in the tradition of early symbolic interactionists like Harvey A. Farberman and Peter M. Hall (see the posts on this blog on these two pioneers of critical criminology).

I read The Social Meanings of Suicide (1967) at the time it came out, and it was a real eye-opener.
